What Does The Survey Include?
The primary purpose of a Management Survey is to identify, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and location of any asbestos or presumed ACM that could be disturbed during normal occupancy, maintenance, installation, or day-to-day activities.
The survey aims to:
• Locate and record the position, extent, and product type of any known or suspected asbestos-containing materials.
• Assess the condition, accessibility, and surface treatment of identified materials.
• Determine the asbestos type through accredited laboratory analysis or, where appropriate, through material assessment and professional assumption.
• Evaluate the likelihood of fibres being released if materials are disturbed, helping prioritise future management actions.
Management Surveys may involve minor intrusive inspection works depending on the property’s construction, accessibility, and maintenance requirements.

Sampling, Inspection & Reporting
To provide the most accurate results, surveyors will generally collect representative samples of suspected materials for laboratory analysis. Positive identification helps avoid unnecessary removal of non-asbestos materials and provides greater certainty when planning future works.
As part of the inspection, surveyors may access areas such as:

Where areas cannot be safely accessed, they may be presumed to contain asbestos and will be clearly documented within the survey report.
