Asbestos in Vehicles

As Australian authorities continue to enforce strict regulations on asbestos, imported vehicles may be subject to asbestos inspections by border control. Since the nationwide ban on the manufacture, use, and importation of asbestos, vehicle owners are responsible for demonstrating that their imported vehicles do not contain asbestos-containing materials.

At Asbestos Consultants NZ (ACNZ), we simplify this process by providing professional vehicle asbestos testing and certified inspection reports. Working with IANZ, NATA, and MRA accredited laboratories, we collect and analyse samples from your vehicle and provide documentation that can be presented to the Australian Border Force (ABF) upon arrival. Our service helps minimise delays, reduce compliance risks, and give you peace of mind before shipping.

Our Testing Process & Your Responsibilities

If the Australian Border Force identifies an imported vehicle as being at risk of containing asbestos, the owner must provide assurance that the vehicle and its components are asbestos-free. ACNZ offers a testing process that meets Australian requirements, allowing asbestos to be identified before shipment and helping to avoid potential fines, delays, or legal consequences associated with unlawful importation.

Should asbestos be detected, we can refer you to a licensed asbestos removal contractor who can safely remove the affected materials before your vehicle is exported.

Our vehicle asbestos testing service covers a wide range of components that may contain asbestos, including:
